Senator Thomas Eagleton of Missouri died March 4, 2007 at age 72. He was chosen at the Democratic National Convention in Miami Beach, where this photograph was taken, to be George McGovern's Vice-Presidential running mate. He was forced out of that position when it was discovered that he had undergone electro-shock treatment for depression..

Sargent Shriver was chosen to replace Eagleton at a "mini-convention" in Washington, DC, where this photograph was taken, later that summer.
